That is a sub-floor, make of real wood, not plywood. I don't ever use plywood. The real woods installed in this floor are red oak, maple, pine, and various others locally grown and harvested. 

 

Oak requires top-of-the-line machinery to process and cut due to its durability. 

This bench matches the trim work and closet shelving of the homeowner. The lumber is red oak.
